It’s Faculty Friday! Meet Mrs. Tawanda Denson! This is Mrs. Denson’s 4th year at Wilkinson County High School and her 13th year in education. Mrs. Denson is a Special Education Instructor and was voted as PEC Teacher of the Year for the 2018-2019 school year. Mrs. Denson was inspired to become a teacher because she wanted to motivate students to expect more  and perform at a higher standard. In her spare time, she enjoys reading ,shopping, traveling, and spending time with her family especially her granddaughter Lauryn Nicole. If you see Mrs. Denson around campus, be sure to say HELLO!

How long have you been teaching? I have been teaching at WCHS for 4 years but I have taught for 13 years total.

What inspired you to be a teacher?  I wanted to motivate students to expect more and perform at a higher standard.

What three traits define you? Optimistic. Compassionate. Independent.

What would you most like to tell your teenage self?

  • Take your time...Life is a journey not a sprint!;
  • Cherish your parents & grandparents; and
  • Thank you for being yourself in-spite of all the peer pressure.

What do you hope your students remember most about you as a teacher? That I was fair and I cared about them being successful beyond high school.

Our school theme this year is "Anchored In Excellence", how do you work to bring that to life in your classes? I try to set clear expectations for what is expected in both academic and behavior aspects. I try to encourage students to do their best in high school because it sets the anchor in preparing them for the transition into adulthood. Aslo, I try to use up-to-date and relevant information and examples when teaching.

What do you work toward in your free time? I work to increase my knowledge by reading and staying abreast of what is happening in society.

What do you want us to know about your family/hobbies/favorites/accomplishments/etc: I enjoy spending time with my family. I have one granddaughter Lauryn Nicole who I love dearly. I love to read, shop, and travel. I am a proud member of the Dental Hygiene Honor Society of Sigma Phi Alpha!
